  2. Create a profile for the MySideline portal (if you have not already) by following the prompts. Enter details of the person you are registering as prompted.

  3. You will need a PHOTO of the person registering so have this ready to upload

  4. Credit card payment is preferred online. Active Kids vouchers are accepted for player registrations. When entering the voucher code, ensure there are no spaces between the digits.

  5. You will receive a confirmation from the MySideline portal that the registration is complete.

When can I register?

Group 7 open the registration portal annually on 1 December.

How much is rego?

$180 per player. We accept Active Kids vouchers.

Registration cost has been set by the Club and includes player insurances, Group 7 playing fees, Council fees and Presentation costs, plus a Sharks Training shirt per player.

What gear do I receive with rego?

As noted above, all players receive a Training shirt included in their rego. Playing Shorts (Tag and Tackle) and playing socks are to be purchased separately at your own cost from the Club.

What do I do after registering?

  1. Follow our Facebook page – Shellharbour Sharks Junior Rugby League Club and read all posts about the season.

  2. Pick up your gear – at the days/times advertised on social media.

  3. Attend training – pre-season training will commence the week of 3/3/2025. Training times and days to be set for all 39 teams in our Club soon – stay tuned for the 2025 Training Schedule!

Playing at the Sharks

What ages/divisions are there to play in at the Sharks?

We offer both tackle and Tag rugby league.

  • Tackle footy for boys and girls (under 6s through to under 16s).

  • League Tag (non-tackle) is on offer for Girls only (under 8s through to under 16s).

  • In 2024, we will also be offering Girls only Tackle competition in U14s, and will be seeking expressions of interest for U12s and U16s Girls Tackle teams also – stay tuned to Facebook for more info on this.

What gear do I need to play?

  • Jerseys (Coaches have these for game days) – these are Club property and will be returned at the end of the season as a full team “Kit”.

  • Sharks playing shorts and socks (to be purchased).

  • Mouthguards & Headgear are optional, Boots compulsory.

Where do I collect gear?

From the canteen at Ron Costello oval on the days/times we advertise on social media. For 2025 season, our first opportunity will be at our Season Launch day on Sunday 2/3/2025.

Do you have supporters gear?

Yes! We sell hoodies, backpacks, caps, beanies, old training shirts etc from the canteen whenever it is open.

What is the age determination for Rugby League?

You play in the age you are turning this year. So someone turning 9 in 2024 plays in under 9s. The minimum age for footy (under 6s) is 4 turning 5 this year. Playing up an Age group is possible however we do not advise it and need parents to complete and sign a Consent form on these special occasions. If there is no age group available to play in (eg; you are turning 11 but there is no under 11 Tag team at the Sharks), you default go up and play in the next available team which would be under 12 Tag.

Where is the home ground for Shellharbour Sharks?

Our main precinct is at Ron Costello oval. You can enter via the bottom of Mary Street or Wentworth Street, Shellharbour. This is where the canteen and gear sheds are, as well as our mini field (Ben Fretus oval).

Teams & Training

Where do the Sharks train?

We use Ron Costello oval, Ben Fretus oval (outlined above) plus;

Pioneer Park – Corner of Towns and Addison Street, Shellharbour (next to the Skate park)

Keith Hockey oval – entry via Boollwaroo Parade, Shellharbour

Dawes Park – Junction Rd, Barrack Point

When does my team train?

Check our 2025 Training Schedule!

Training | Shellharbour Sharks Junior Rugby League Football Club

What team is my child in?

For Mini’s (u6-u9 age groups), the Team lists will be posted on our Facebook page closer to season commencement (April 2025). Our Facebook page is Shellharbour Sharks Junior Rugby League Club.

For ages 10+, Team lists will be posted once Teams are formed after the trials and before Round 1. Until then, the whole Age group trains and plays together.

We can accommodate some requests for team placement but note graded competitions do exist so this is not permittable in these age groups.

Other FAQs

How do I follow up a clearance?

Group 7 will not be reviewing or approving any transfers or clearances until 1/2/2025. Please note clearances can take up to 3-4 weeks to complete as many parties/stages are involved.

Where does Shellharbour play?

Shellharbour Sharks JRLC are part of Group 7 South Coast Rugby League. We play against teams located all up and down the coast. For ages 6-12, teams range from Warilla in the north to Milton/Ulladulla in the south. Generally the Draw is 1 home game, 1 away on alternate weeks and you only travel to other Clubs once. This is subject to change however. For ages 13+ Group 7 & Illawarra play together in a Merged competition so travel up past North Wollongong more regularly than the younger kids. The Draw is released by Group 7 weekly until Round 5 when regrading occurs. After this, a full season Draw is released by Group 7. We post the Draw to Facebook.

If I have an issue, who do I speak to?

Depending on what it is – you can contact your Coach, your Team’s Manager, or the Club’s Committee (via the methods outlined above). Our President Ben Cohen is the main contact for Coaches – 0421 438 485.

What happens when it’s raining?

We will only cancel training or games when Council close grounds. We will advise of any cancellations via social media.

How do I volunteer to help with my child’s Team?

Every Team should have a Team Manager, Coach and a LeagueSafe Representative at a minimum. To become;

  • a Team Manager, simply register as a Volunteer online

  • a Coach, register online and then complete your accredited training courses (online & face-to-face)

  •  a LeagueSafe Rep, register as a Volunteer then complete the easy online course

  • A canteen helper or Committee member, simply register as Volunteer online!

If you are interested in being a First Aid Officer, there are also courses available for this which the Club pays for. We do however need you to be available to assist with games that may not be your own child’s game.

Registering online:

  1. Go to www.playrugbyleague.com and register as a COACH/TRAINER/ VOLUNTEER by following the prompts. Search for our Club using “2529” or “Shellharbour”

  2. Create a profile for the MySideline portal (if you have not already) by following the prompts. Enter details of the person you are registering as prompted.

  3. You will need a PHOTO of the person registering so have this ready to upload

  4. You will receive an email confirmation

How do I find out about Representative opportunities for my child?

We will advise of any opportunities via Facebook or by directly speaking with you and/or your Coach.

Do you offer footy for under 5 year olds?

We do. This is called Munchkin League and is for 3-5 year olds. This is a non-contact skills-based introduction to football run by volunteers on Friday afternoons at Ben Fretus oval. It’s a great way for the younger kids to get some footy exposure and experience and hopefully leads them into our under 6s. This program will start in May 2025 and registration will open before then. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for information.

What is the Tag program for under 6s for/about?

In 2022, NSWRL introduced a new compulsory ‘Tackle Ready’ program across the State modelled off previous programs conducted in Queensland. It means ALL under 6 players play TAG ONLY for the season, and all u7s do also for the first six weeks of the season. Tag belts are provided for the kids. More information on the Player Development Framework can be found online here.
